Home DVD Theater System – Can I convert my DVD player to a home theater system?

Can I convert my DVD player to a home theater system?

I have a Panasonic 5 disc changer that outputs to surround sound speakers, however the player does not have any line-in jacks so the surround system only “works” when I play a DVD. Is there any way (any conversion box/connector) I can buy which will allow me to flow the speakers out of said box, and allow me to connect my TV? Basically I want an intermediary that will allow me to flow my dvd player into my tv, and then my tv out to the box which is connected to the speakers. Does such a product exist?

Back To Basics – Building The Perfect Home Theater System

True movie buffs understand the importance of a solid home theater system. They appreciate the vibration of bass during a great special effects scene and are acutely aware of the acoustical properties of the room where the equipment is housed. Today, millions of Americans have realized that a perfect home theater experience requires much more than a big TV and a comfy couch, and have invested a great deal in the proper equipment and installation expertise to ensure they’ll always have a movie theater-quality experience at home.

With literally thousands of options and brands in home theater equipment and installation, there is something on the market for everyone. At its core, a home theater system’s purpose is to turn a small DVD into a theater-like production. The better equipment you own, the cleaner and more amplified the sound and picture will be. Safety Services, Inc. specializes in home theater design and installation, and has extensive experience and technical knowledge in advanced multimedia systems to ensure great peace of mind for their customers. Here are five essential items necessary for a perfect home theater experience.

1. A bright, sharp image. When planning your home theater system, the first step is to examine the space and call in a home theater installation professional like Safety Services to determine the ideal size and setup for your system. Sometimes, a bigger TV is not always better. You will want to choose an appropriately-sized TV that offers a bright, sharp image, and is preferably wide-screen, whi

ch usually works well, as most DVD movies use a wide-screen format. A majority of new TVs today offer high definition (HD), which provide nearly 10x the resolution and picture quality of traditional televisions. Safety Services offers many types of TVs for consideration, including plasma, LCD and rear projection, to name a few.

2. Loud, clear speakers. Today, the HD experience includes much more than picture. Sound quality has improved dramatically in recent years, and a quality sound system is perhaps the most important component of a solid home theater system. Be sure to listen carefully to the speakers when you’re shopping to determine whether they have the crisp, clear sound you want. For great all-around sound, you should have at least a 5.1-channel system, which means three speakers in the front (left, right and center), two in the back plus a subwoofer. Those looking for a more immersive surround sound experience may want to invest in a 7.1 channel system, which offers four speakers in the front, three in the back and a subwoofer.

3. A high quality receiver. Never overlook the importance of a high quality receiver, as this piece of equipment handles every single signal transmitted throughout your entire home theater system. It not only powers and places each specific sound in your speakers, but it serves as a convenient control among your home theater’s audio/video sources. You should choose a receiver that closely matches your choice in speakers. For instance, if you like to listen to music/movies loudly in a large living room, you’ll want a system with higher power capabilities. A good rule of thumb is to allot at least 50 watts per channel for maximum performance. If you are looking for clean, non-muddy sound, you’ll want a high quality receiver that amplifies the sound without distorting it. Safety Services, Inc. technical specialists can help determine the best receiver for your home theater system.

4. A great DVD player. You may think that any ordinary DVD player will suffice for your new home theater system. However, in recent years, the development of high definition DVD formats has produced much better quality video and audio than standard DVD. When considering DVD players, you should decide whether or not you want to enjoy the full HD experience. If so, Blu-ray is your best option. Blu-ray allows a disc the size of a regular DVD to hold an entire movie at high definition resolution or allows a person to record up to two hours of HD video content.

5. Quality connectors. Why spend the money to build a custom home theater system if you don’t invest in quality connectors? The higher grade materials used in quality connectors transmit a cleaner signal from component to component and ultimately offer better sound, better picture and a better overall home theater experience.
